In 2008, a small, but select group showed through July, then the numbers dropped off because life tends to get in the way sometimes.
Leslie Hazard and her horse Take a Gander (Goose) started out in the baby green hunters and in just two months moved to the working hunter division. But work and school called her, and she had to put showing on hold for the rest of the year (well, almost as you will see on the 2008 show results tab). Even with the very short show season for the pair, Leslie won the first and second qualifying classes for the new adult amateur medal. And Goose ended up third for the year end award! A very exciting end of the year event for Leslie was to borrow Abbie, a horse she had ridden only a few times, to win the Adult Amateur Medal Finals. She also hopped up to win the huge Jeanie McGuinnes Equitation Challenge with over 50 riders, including professionals. This is really remarkable as Leslie had only ridden about ten times since July. Way to go Les!
Cheryl Erpelding and Riding Magazine's Hot off the Press. Year End Champion Adult Amateur Hunter, Champion Low Adult Amateur Hunter. ECHO series champion, Sweetwater series champion. Cheryl also received the 2008 Sportsmanship award from the Greater San Diego Hunter Jumper Association.

Signature, April
Great start for our first show of the year! Cheryl and Abbie (Riding Magazine's Hot Off The Press) were champion adult amateur with three first and one second. I am very proud of Cheryl as due to other commitments, I was unable to attend, she took herself to the show and won BOTH her classes!
Leslie Hazard and Goose (Take a Gander) got their first taste in the jumper ring and were second in every class. Next time we go to higher divisions so the "rabbits" can't catch us!
Ronnett Leja (nee Bowman) on my horse, Just Jim, won their very class together! Jim has a wonderful mind and I am very thrilled for Ronnett as this formally nationally ranked junior rider had not stepped in the ring in twenty years.
Many thanks to Lily Garth for picking up the catch ride on my pony Opening Day, in the pony classes. "Odie" is a work in progress, but is coming along nicely.
